Hi Lori,

Connected with you on Twitter the other day. I read a bit of your blog today.

I've had MS for 15 years. There's plenty of shit I could tell you but there's plenty of time for that if you're into it. The one thing I did want to mention is this book - "The MS Recovery Diet". It's available at Amazon.

I avoided a lot of the diet stuff like the plague for the first years of my MS. I finally gave in after steadily getting worse. Between Tysabri and the diet, I am had the best year I've had since getting diagnosed.

I don't know what will work best for you, obviously, but I wish I had the information in that book sooner. So thought I'd pass it along. For a depressed foodie like me, it's a bitch!! I love my food. LOVE. I've made a deal with the universe that I will get to eat everything I want in some other life or something. In any case, I had to get very, very miserable before I was willing to do it. And the stupid thing was, I felt much better after doing it. It's not a cure, but it makes my day to day life about 1000x better. My cognitive problems improved a lot.

I'm on-line a lot and am happy to converse if you want to. I've been around the block a few times with this disease, which is hard for me to believe. I remember that first year after diagnosis and some of the panic I felt. Somebody needs to tell your social worker that nobody can MAKE you accept it. You'll figure that out on your own.

sincerely,

Trish

Hi Trish:

I own the book and know that I won't follow it. I tried gluten free/low fat in the first days after my first attack and just got worse because I wasn't eating at all.

I'm not a foodie. I eat out of convenience and because if I don't I will be sick. If it isn't delivered or can be heated up in the microwave or oven, I'm not likely to eat it at home, and gluten free/low fat food at restaurants is nigh on impossible.

I am doing a Mediterranean diet, sort of, because there's a lot of finger foods available and it involves way more veggies than I would naturally consume on my own. I am getting better than I was 7 months ago, I'm just not interested in being worse than I was a year ago when I had a normal life.

I understand that this is working for you, as it is a friend of mine, but I am not going to make myself sicker in the name of avoiding things that may or may not be the issue.

I'm not sure how this ended up getting posted to your blog. Must be a Blogger issue.
