Treating MS with Diet - No Soup for You!

I've been working for the past few months on the best diet plan for me & MS. I've learned a lot. And here's the hilarious part. There's a web site that pretty much summarizes all of it right here.

I did get the results of my ALCAT test, which I am writing up for posterity. I will post that here. I'm suffering some grief about letting go of vegetarianism.

I am amazed at how radically I have to change.

The MS diet is gluten-free, dairy-free, legume-free and low in saturated fats. Some meats are ok, some not. Then you get your own individual sensitivities tested and avoid those foods for 6 or so months, then introduce them back in on a rotating basis.

These are my "take a vacation for 6 or so months" foods, more or less in order of severity:

Anise
Cane Sugar
Cumin
Flounder
Navy Bean
Nectarine
Rosemary
Sole
Soy
Squash
Thyme
Yellow Dye #5
Brussel Sprouts
Melon
Iceburg Lettuce
Kelp
Kidney Bean
Leek
Lentils
Lima Beans
Nutmeg
Parsnip
Quinoa
Rice
Safflower
Sardine
Tarragon
Aspartame (Nutri-sweet)
Benzoic Aid
Orange #8
Red #3
Red #40
Fluoride
Nickel Sulfate
Orris Root
Benzene
Ammonium Chlorid
Phenylalanine
Nystatin
Acetaminophen
Amoxicillin
Anchovy
Artichoke
Asparagus
Yeast
Beef
Beet sugar
Bok Choy
Cauliflower
Chicken
Chili Pepper
Clove
Coriander
Corn
Duck
Garlic
Hazelnut
Okra
Pinto Bean
Venison

So, my vegetarian days are numbered and much of Simon and Garfunkel is out. A bunch of those are legumes so they won't be coming back into the mix, as I understand it.

I have found a Yahoo Group for people with MS who are following this food plan, so that has perked me up just a little bit.

If it helps me manage my MS, it is all worth it.

HA HA. That list does provide some good comedy fodder.
